This playfully elaborated film is given a discreetly dramatic background, which is based on the idea of contact and contact attempts in an ossified society. The colours play a major and functional role in this. The images that directly refer to the basic idea (making contact) are normally polychrome, while the environment in which this takes place (the rigid society) is coloured monochrome. The 'trumpet playing', the only musical sound in this film, takes on a deeper symbolic meaning: a signal to society. A street musician has little contact with his surroundings. A young soldier is driven to desertion. They meet each other. An attempt to increase their social contacts leads to a split between the two. A short film by Paul Adriaanse to a script by Emile Degelin.
